Behind the Glory of the ASEAN Summit

Almost a month in retrospect and I am still entertained by the necessary "stage show" that Cebu had to act out for the delegates of 12th Asean Summit...

The leaders of the ASEAN were busy agreeing and disagreeing to protect each country's interest last January 14. It was a long-awaited event after all the CICC controversies, weather-related or terrorist-threat-precautionary postponement...what have they...and finally, Cebu had its taste of hosting one big event.

Like any other big stage play, WE, Cebuanos simply played at the backstage... and while everybody were busy with the logistics, lighting, and sequence of events, the rest of us simply went on with our normalcy despite the frequent blocking of the main arterial road by the security team to give way for the delegates.

The office i go to is located near the present Cebu International Convention Center which is at Plaridel St., Mandaue City. It is along the road that is at the neck of that which traverses the roads going to the Old and New Mactan bridges.

Several instances at the duration of such event, my sister and I were blocked either at the Reclamation area or at the intersection towards the reclamation area along A.C. Cortes St. We had to wait for around 15-30 minutes before we can finally get to drive towards our office. You can't see a spec of garbage in our area then...you can't even see a single car parked along Plaridel Street...we had to park our car at the back of our office coz security people kept the streets SPIC and SPAN...and of course, we had to run the trouble of going home later than the normal office hours (around 6-8pm) since security people stopped us from driving along that street.

My 8 year old half sister was able to participate in the welcome ceremonies for the delegates. She participated with some of her classmates as tiny Singing Ambassadors. At her age, i never experienced sleeping away from my family...all by myself. But she had to go through it with much courage. No yayas or chaperones were allowed to go with them. My sister had to stay away from home for one night in a secured hotel. Cellphones were restricted and she could only use it with scrutiny.

That's behind the scenes. If we had to go through it all, i think it was for a bigger purpose.

People behind the scenes don't get any credit most of the time.

But it's all for show. And like any show, it is supposed to leave a mark in our lives.

And then again, that's behind the scenes...

...and this is my story behind THAT SHOW's scenes.

so...What's your own story behind the scene?
