Canvas is an authentic Australian restaurant.After having thought about where to have lunch for today, my mom and I kept strolling at the Terraces in Ayala Center, Cebu City.
From its facade, Canvas looks like a pricey, posh place to me. If the attendant named 'Angel' was not that inviting and cheerful, we would not have chosen to eat here as it dow not look that inviting really. Angel tells us that Canvas serves authentic Australian food and that their chief is really an Australian.
Off we go, and we are quite impressed at how cost-effective the interior was treated by its designer. The walls are left unpainted and the overall look of its interiors have industrial touch to it.
Most of the patrons are foreigners, and most of them might also be Australian. I should say the menu sound really foreign and the liability of this for the local patrons like us is that, the waiter who attended to us was not that generous in explaining what they served. He didn't seem to be that enthusiastic about their menu and I think that there is a very big room for improvement when it comes to customer service.
My mom ordered a beef meal while I took the salmon meal for myself. Australian food is quite bland to me, and I think that explains why there aren't that many local patrons in this place.
We finished off the course with a good yogurt desert which was very much filling and made a statement at the end of our meal.
Portions are quite large and for 2 persons, you will be spending about Php800-Php1000++ for meals.
Canvas has a very clean toilet but is unisex, which can make it quite awkward during peak hours.
Overall score from a local's perspective is 8/10.
But dear Mate, food is great though (i think so for those with the Australian palate).
